David Lyth MSc – Technical Director
Whilst he doesn’t like to mention it, David has over 40 years’ experience in the audio industry. His interest in sound started in his teens when he made a crystal pickup cartridge and various speaker systems. After graduating with a degree in electronics, he then gained an MSc in Applied Acoustics from London University with specialisation in servocontrolled loudspeaker systems.
David then worked at Jordan Watts of Hayes, Middlesex, which manufactured full range aluminium cone loudspeaker units and systems. He was also employed by Gale Electronics as QC manager and lead production for their well-known black and chrome loudspeaker system.
Still overseeing production, David moved to Martin Audio where he worked closely with Dave Martin in a technical capacity. Before starting Volt, David completed six months with Sanyo designing domestic systems and advising on their UK manufacture.
Now with a wealth of commercial experience, David leased a small space from his first employer, Jordan Watts, and Volt Loudspeakers was born – the rest is history. A highly respected figure in the audio industry, Volt’s founder now focuses on providing design assistance to existing customers and using his extensive knowledge and expertise to complete bespoke systems.

Cat Lyth BA hons – Business Development
Unsurprisingly, with her background, Cat has been aware of music and loudspeakers from an early age. When she finished her A Levels, she joined the production team at Volt where, after learning to assemble software and becoming proficient in the art of coil winding, she managed the office and promoted products at exhibitions.
In 2004, Cat gained an honours degree in English and Media and started work in corporate event organisation and then education management.
Despite becoming accustomed to long teaching holidays, Cat could not resist the challenge of returning to Volt and is looking forward to developing the family business.
